Pathways to Sustainable and Just Transformation of the Mekong Region’s Electricity sector

As part of the ‘Shaping the Future of Mekong Regional Architecture’ project by CSDS, which examined the policy impacts of evolving regional architectures amid Southeast Asia’s shifting geopolitics, Chulalongkorn University and Alluvium conducted research and policy analysis.

Just Transformation of the Mekong Region’s Electricity Sector

The project ‘Shaping the future of Mekong regional architecture’ by CSDS aimed to understand the policy implications of the proliferation of regional architectures within the shifting geopolitics of Southeast Asia. As part of this, Alluvium (through AMPERES), in partnership with Chulalongkorn University, conducted research and policy analysis to develop 19 strategic think pieces on trends, opportunities and challenges for sustainable electricity transformation in the Mekong region; then stimulated the coordination and networking between policymakers and practitioners to ensure the diversity of political and socio-technical systems in the region to produce effective policy recommendations.

In this project, we:
1. Led the overall book design and development;
2. Led the research on the hydropower’s impacts on the connectivity of the Mekong system and identified opportunities to mitigate sediment impacts, and for dams removal and rewilding.
