Study tour on Electricity Market Reform

As Viet Nam undertakes a revision of its Electricity Law, understanding different electricity market structures is crucial for ensuring a robust and adaptable regulatory framework. In August 2024, Alluvium (through AMPERES) facilitated an eight-day study tour to Australia, providing timely insights into electricity market reform. The delegation, comprising 20 officials from key Vietnamese energy and regulatory bodies, explored the contrasting structures of Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) and Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

Through peer-to-peer exchanges with Australian regulators, policymakers, and industry experts, participants gained valuable knowledge on renewable energy integration, grid management, and regulatory practices to inform Viet Nam’s energy transition.
