Pathways to Sustainable and Just Transformation of the Mekong Region’s Electricity sector

Client: Centre for Socio Development Study (CSDS), Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University

Implementing partners: CSDS and 24 researchers from academic institutions, think tanks and civil society organizations

Within a larger project titled ‘Shaping the future of Mekong regional architecture’ by CSDS, which aimed to understand the policy implications of the proliferation of regional architectures within the shifting geopolitics of Southeast Asia, AMPERES and Chulalongkorn University conducted research and policy analysis to develop 19 strategic think pieces on trends, opportunities and challenges for sustainable electricity transformation in the Mekong region; then stimulate the coordination and networking between policy makers and practitioners to ensure the diversity of political and socio-technical systems in the region to produce effective policy recommendations.

The following tasks were undertaken by AMPERES:

1. Lead the overall book design and development;

2. Lead the research on hydropower's impacts on the connectivity of the Mekong system and identified opportunities to mitigate sediment impacts and for dam removal and rewilding.
