Technical support for Water Supply and Drainage, Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment Law Reform
Working toward Sustainable Development Goal 6 to improve water sanitation and hygiene, the Assembly of Vietnam was poised to formulate new laws and regulations on water supply, drainage, sewage and wastewater treatment. The newly formulated law was expected to tackle the problems in operating and managing water supply and wastewater treatment by incorporating policies and best practices from Australia and other countries. The Administration of Technical Infrastructure (ATI) within the Ministry of Construction (MoC) took the lead in the formulation process.
In December 2023, following a request from MoC, the Australian Water Partnership (AWP) appointed AMPERES as the Consultant to support ATI with a review of water sector policies and international best practices to provide technical advice on the new law. More specifically, the Consultant was requested to assess current policies, institutions and management models in Vietnam and develop recommendations for improvements based on the review of international best practices.
AMPERES was in charge of the overall project implementation, including conducting a rapid review, coordinating international and national experts, synthesising and reviewing research reports, and facilitating dialogues between governmental and expert stakeholders.
Country: Vietnam
Duration of project: Dec 2023 to May 2024
